Keeping Wellington moving
Wellington’s traffic is now flowing more smoothly, thanks to the Parkwise team’s hard work.
The team’s efforts have lead to a record year for parking tickets being issued, thus helping to free up Wellington’s clearways and short-stay parking spaces. Although many people are unhappy at receiving a ticket, others recognise the value of Parkwise’s work and thank officers for being so diligent.
From 1 July 2008 till 30 June 2009, they issued 272,190 parking tickets for the Wellington City Council.
Although enforcing parking compliance is a key part of the role, Parkwise wardens also play an ambassadorial role by helping people looking for directions or needing other assistance.
Every day is busy, but the pressure is higher during special events, such as parades, where parking is banned.
