A central role in health, safety and security planningWorking around millions of tonnes of highly flammable product means that health and safety plays a central role for the Armourguard team at the Refining New Zealand’s Marsden Point site.
As New Zealand’s only oil refinery, the site is the country’s leading supplier of oil products including refined petroleum products such as petrol, diesel and aviation fuel. It provides 50% of the domestic market’s petrol, more than 80% of New Zealand diesel and jet fuel and most of the bitumen for New Zealand roads.
The Armourguard team assists the site’s Health and Safety team with site access and inductions. The patrol the 120-hectare site’s perimeter, ensure the company’s berthing facilities are kept secure and process everyone entering and leaving the refinery. In such a sensitive environment access needs to be carefully controlled and as part of its daily routine Armourguard will search both bags and cars to make sure that restricted items including cigarette lighters and matches are kept off site.
The Refining New Zealand values Armourguard’s role and our Site Security Supervisor is a member of the QHSE management team and is also heavily involved in security planning.
