Catching the crims
The Wellington Police often enlist Walkwise support to catch criminals.
In one incident, the Police contacted Walkwise after a group of teenage girls robbed another group of girls. The offenders, who were known to the Walkwise team, were quickly located whilst in the process of dividing the stolen property.
Two Walkwise officers recovered the property and detained the offenders until Police arrived. Their efforts lead to several arrests, including one who was a troublesome repeat offender.
Earlier that week Police asked two Walkwise officers to help them find an arsonist who had set three fires that day. Just over an hour later the officers spotted the offender and chased him into a building. They called police and watched the building to ensure the offender didn’t escape. As a result, the man was caught and later charged with arson.
The four Walkwise officers involved in these incidents later went on to become the only non-Police recognised in the annual Wellington Police Awards.
