ADT Armourguard General Manager Ian Anderson: 10 Questions in 10 Minutes
ADT Armourguard General Manager Ian Anderson: 10 Questions in 10 Minutes
1 - What inspired you to get into the security industry?
I was inspired by the opportunity to work for a company with an enviable reputation in the security industry. The breadth of services ADT Armourguard provides was also an attraction. The company delivers far more than traditional security. I believe ADT Armourguard plays an essential role in the smooth running of New Zealand society and I was keen to be part of that.
2 - Who has influenced you the most professionally?
Throughout my career I have been influenced by a number of talented and generous people. The top three would be: John Ellis, Commercial Manager of the New Zealand Sugar Company; Richard Kelleway, President of Tyco Asia/Pacific Fire and Robert Zhu, President of Tyco Asia/Pacific.
3 – How would you describe yourself as a businessman/general manager?
I’m a family man, first and foremost. Engaging with our customers and working with a talented, commited group of staff across the country helps fuel my passion for the business.
4 - What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Personally, I would have to say staying married to my wonderful, supportive partner Aroha Anderson (nee Kerekere) for nine years. Professionally, it would be running a successful business that continually delivers high quality, important services to the community.
5 - With hindsight, what is the one thing you would do differently?
With the benefit of hindsight, I would have integrated ADT and Armourguard three years ago, thereby giving a total security solution to the New Zealand market a lot sooner.
6 - Who do you find inspirational and why?
The people I work with, because of the values they exhibit every day as they carry out their duties, and their commitment to their families. ADT Armourguard’s values also provide me with daily inspiration:
- Be Dependable
- Be Consistent
- Face up To Challenges
- Respect and Courtesy
- Community Commitment
7 - What is the most inspirational book you have read recently?
The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement by Eliyahu M. Goldratt.
8 - What is your favourite website and why?
Our company website of course! www.armourguard.co.nz It has just been relaunched; it’s fresh, informative, and thought provoking
9 -What is the first thing you would do if you became Prime Minister?
Reduce the number of MPs by 20%.
10 - What is the best thing about being a General Manager?
I get a real kick everyday out of leading a passionate and commited team. I’m privileged that our parent company, Tyco has given me the autonomy I need to drive the business forward.
